PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

The game is panfandom. Canon characters, OCs, and AUs are allowed. Players can create an AU tweak of other types of characters (such as CRAUs) as well, so players can bring in whatever incarnation of the character they want.

Characters with very little facetime in canon (including silent protagonists in video games) are allowed.

Canon OCs (OCs from pre-existing canon universes) are allowed. Canon OCs cannot have a close relationship to the canon characters. (For example, a hunter OC from Supernatural could not have a history of being friends with Sam and Dean Winchester.)

CRAUs (characters with growth from past RPs) are allowed. CRAUs can include history from psls and non-open games.

OCs and NPCs from tabletop systems and MMO fandoms are allowed.

No real people are allowed, unless they're fictionalized historical characters. Fictionalized historical characters must be from before the 1800s, and will be assessed for appropriateness for the game. If you want to app a fictionalized historical character from 1800 to the present, that is even more case by case. Before apping, contact the mods to discuss it.

Characters will be brought in by the belief (or potentially fear, if a villain cooperating with the heroes, or npc working for Kuk) of kids and teens. If brought in by belief, it is often because they wish the character would protect them or perhaps simply identify with the character in some way. Sometimes it may be that the character reminds them of a family member or simply is interesting in some way. Since some teens consume adult media, this means characters can be from canons not traditionally for children and teens, so players can assume pretty much any character can be brought in.

The baseline character age limit is 14 (or an equivalent mentality if a character has weird aging), but characters between 11 and 13 can potentially be brought in on a case by case basis. However, the younger a character is the more likely they will not be able to participate in some plots. Child or teen characters must be capable enough to be able to defend themselves, with or without their powers. An example character under 14 that would work in the game: Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Aang is 12 during the series, but a hugely powerful hero who constantly fights life or death battles for the fate of his world. Players also have the option to do older AUs of young characters to get them over the age limit, pulling them from further ahead in their personal timeline.

"Crack" characters from universes with strange world physics (ie Bugs Bunny types) will be case by case. This will be based on how well they'd work with the limitations of the world and we expect these characters to meet "real" world limitations. Ask the mods before apping if you think this applies to you.

Non-humanoid and non-organic characters are allowed. In most cases, you may keep them in their normal bodies. Robots, androids, tentacle aliens, energy beings, etc. are all allowed. The only exception would be beings that could somehow break the setting (ie sprawling bubbling horrors like Lovecraftian gods). We may pose some limitations on the powers their natural state provides them, or count those powers as one of the powers/spells the character is allowed. Our only requirement regarding species/powers/form is that the character is somehow mortal - that they can be physically destroyed or killed. Larger robots and such may be forced to be shrunk down somewhat, or need a size-changing ability, please keep in mind that they will need to fit in indoor places at times.

Characters with special dietary needs like vampires or zombies are allowed. The mods can help you come up with an in-universe way to get their food resources (such as allowing them to feed on animals or working out an arrangement with other players to have characters feed the vamp with blood donations) or magical-created handwaves.

Villains are allowed in the main group with the Guardians. Even some openly villainous characters can work in game as part of the group, since they may be too self-serving to work for Kuk and risk destroying their home universe. However, villains must be able to cooperate with others if they're going to be a guardian, or be willing to hide their villainy if they plan to work against the group. Kids and teens may have imagined the villain in because they think they're cool or because they fear them, but the villain can still choose not to work with Kuk.

Characters must have some capacity to adjust to the setting and the stress of surviving a fantasy adventure. Characters don't necessarily have to be competent but they need to at least be able to survive, even if it's just by being fast on their feet and adapting.

Manny will suggest characters join mission teams but he can be ignored and overridden, so characters need to learn to cooperate to a degree. If they'd work at cross purposes with the other characters, we may ask further questions regarding their integration into the setting and your long term plans.
